Offline mode
The internet is an unreliable thing. It disappears on planes, in the subway, at the countryside, and sometimes just because your provider decided so. LiveAI is ready for this: your documents are accessible even without a network connection.
How it works
LiveAI stores copies of your documents locally -- on your device. When the internet goes out:
- Documents remain accessible -- you can see and open your notebooks
- Editing works -- type, format, create blocks -- everything works as usual
- Changes are saved locally -- nothing is lost
- Sync on reconnection -- when the network is back, all changes are automatically sent to the server
Synchronization happens automatically. You don't need to press any buttons -- LiveAI detects when the network is available on its own and syncs your data.
What's available offline
Connection status
LiveAI displays the current connection status:
Where offline mode works
- Web version -- limited offline via Service Worker (works for previously opened documents)
- Desktop app (coming soon) -- full offline mode, all documents cached locally
- Mobile app (coming soon) -- local storage on the device
The desktop app is under development and will offer the best offline experience. In the meantime, the web version supports limited offline for previously opened documents.
Sync conflicts
What if you edit a document offline while a colleague changes it online at the same time? LiveAI uses CRDT algorithms to automatically merge edits. In the vast majority of cases, the system resolves conflicts on its own -- without data loss and without any action on your part.
